Evenings Include Inductions into the Islanders Hall of Fame
The New York Islanders announced on Sept. 8 the launch of their campaign to celebrate their 40-Year Anniversary. The Islanders played their first National Hockey League season in 1972 and are proud to celebrate 40 years on Long Island.
The theme for the Islanders’ upcoming season is “Commitment,” representing the organization’s ongoing commitment to its fans and the Long Island community.
“The Long Island community has been very supportive of their team and we are honored to bring back many of the Islanders greats spanning the past four decades,” Islanders Sr. Vice President Michael Picker said. “With the current core of talent that is blossoming before our eyes, we are confident that this franchise is destined for a successful season both on and off the ice.”
The 40-Year Anniversary will begin Saturday, Oct. 8, Opening Night presented by Capital One Bank, when the Islanders face off against the Florida Panthers at 8 p.m. Throughout the game, the Islanders will span four decades of Islanders hockey with various in-game activities and video tributes. Members of the Islanders Season Ticket-Holder Family since the inaugural season will participate in the pregame festivities.
The Islanders will celebrate “Decade Nights” throughout the year, in which they will honor an Islanders’ legend with induction into the Islanders Hall of Fame. Each of the former players will have their names placed on the Islanders’ Hall of Fame banner that hangs in the rafters at Nassau Coliseum. In addition, a brass plaque, depicting each player as well as a list of accomplishments and contributions to the organization, will be mounted in the team’s dressing hallway.
On Saturday, Oct. 29, when the Islanders take on the San José Sharks, the organization will also have members of the team’s alumni in attendance.
Fans interested in attending the Decade Nights, which includes the season opener and the game on Saturday, Oct. 29 against the Sharks, can take advantage of the specially-priced “Decades Pack.”
Throughout the season, players will wear a commemorative 40-Year Anniversary patch on the left shoulder of the team’s jerseys. The logo will also appear on the team’s marketing materials throughout the season and at center ice during all home games at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Islanders season ticket booklets are also themed to commemorate the 40-Year Anniversary. Tickets to each of the Islanders’ 41 home games feature images of historic Islanders alumni and current players, chronologically spanning 40 years on Long Island.
The Islanders will incorporate the 40-Year Anniversary into their social media campaign with the #Isles40th Twitter hashtag. The club will feature tweets every Wednesday of fans sharing their stories of Islanders hockey.
The 2011-12 season will feature many other special promotions, merchandise and giveaways, providing fans with additional reason to celebrate 40 years on Long Island.
