On Monday, Sept. 26 Kurt Brey, of Farmingdale, defeated Jeff Schaller of Concordia College in a 4-hole playoff to win the annual Dowling September Shootout held at Long Island National Golf Links in Riverhead. Dowling’s Golden Lions finished with a 3rd place team finish in the two-day tournament.
Dowling finished up the first day tied for third place with Adelphi University. Brey and Anthony Corsi led the Golden Lions, with Brey tied for first with Nick DeLango of Sparkill’s St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC).
Dowling narrowly slipped by Adelphi University to claim third place with a final score of 600, topping the Panthers by just one stroke. However, it was a four-hole playoff between Brey and Schaller that provided the most excitement for the weekend, with Brey coming out on top for the win.
“This was one of the more exciting September Shootouts in recent memory and I’d like to thank all of the players and teams for making it a great weekend,” said Head Coach Jeff DiMarco. “Congratulations to Kurt for pulling out the win in the end.”
Dowling is back in action on Sunday, Oct. 9 as they participate in the Dominican College Charger Challenge.
Brey, son of Alan and Lynn, brother to Kyle, is a Farmingdale High School graduate. He is majoring in Business at Dowling.
