As part of its ongoing mission to educate and represent the interests of the community, the Plainview-Old Bethpage Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual Candidate’s Forum at its next monthly meeting on Oct. 19 at the Plainview Mariott Residence Inn at 8 a.m.
Presently slated to appear at the Chamber’s Forum are candidates for town and county elections, including Supervisor John Venditto, Councilwoman Rebecca M. Alesia, Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs, John Capobianco, James Milano, Allison McNally, Terrence Kelly and Eva Pearson.
Many important issues confront our community and chamber members – how can we make our town and the county economic engines for growth? What will happen with the “Wang” property and how will it be developed? How will the Nassau Coliseum be redeveloped and will the Islanders remain on Long Island? Will taxes continue to go up and how can we make our community affordable for the next generation of Long Islanders?
The chamber’s event seeks discussions and answers to these questions. The candidates, incumbents and political newcomers, are here to answer these questions and be challenged about their vision for the future of Long Island and the community. Participants will be free to ask questions of the candidates. Election Day is right around the corner on Tuesday, Nov. 8. If you’re not currently registered to vote, visit the Nassau County Board of Elections website at www.nassaucountyny.gov/agencies/BOE/ for information and the forms needed to vote.
The Candidate’s Forum will be held on Oct. 19 at 8 a.m. at the Plainview Marriott Residence Inn at 9 Gerhard Road. The event is open to all members of the chamber as well as the entire Plainview-Old Bethpage community.
In other news, Chamber President Gary Epstein announced that the chamber has over 130 business, civic and community members and expressed optimism that the chamber will continue to grow and serve its members in promoting business and the local community. The chamber will be spearheading a community-wide food drive in the upcoming weeks, joining forces with other local organizations including the Inter Faith Clergy Council and Plainview Sports Council. Mr. Epstein also announced that the chamber’s Nov. 16 meeting at the Atria will have an interesting format: it will feature an open forum for members to explore how the chamber can better serve the needs of its members with programs and events.
