TOB Supervisor’s 5K Run Winners Bayville’s Snukis; OB’s Gianetti

OB’s Shane Gianetti Third Overall; Samantha Snukis Best Woman Racer

Yeah it was a bit windy, and there was a bit of a chill in the air, but the running conditions were nearly perfect for the nearly 600 runners and walkers who crossed the finish line of the October 15th Oyster Bay Supervisor’s 5 Kilometer Run.

Top runner 23-year old Connor Shelley of Rockville Centre, a veteran top finisher in the Marcum Workplace Challenge and many other local races scored a strong 15:25 overall win, four seconds in front of runnerup Juan Nuonte of Farmingdale. Local 19-year old Shane Gianetti of Oyster Bay was third overall in 15:41.

Top honors among the women went to recent Long Island arrival and former Wagner College star, Samantha Snukis of Bayville, with former Long Islander Crystal Perno of upstate Clifton Park second, and Noni DiGermenci of Port Washington edging out Shari Klarfeld of Plainview for third place honors in the Women’s Division.

Mike Anderson of Hastings-on-Hudson, who was a star runner for Syosset High School and the university of Pennsylvania two decades ago, was the first Masters runner to cross the finish line, and Jill Skelly led a strong women’s masters contingent.

The highly competitive field could boast of the first 19 finishers under 18 minutes, and 44 finishers breaking the magic 20 minute mark.

Other local finishers scoring towards the front in this year’s Town Supervisor’s Run incuded Emily Baker of Oyster Bay (1st Athena 140-159 pounds), Bernadette Winnupst of Locust Valley (2nd Athena (140-159 pounds), Kiera Scognamiglio of Locust Valley (3rd woman 14 and under age group), Joe Lacorte of Oyster Bay (2nd 15-19 age group), Vince Giambanco of East Norwich (1st 20-24 age group), Alessandra Echeverria of Oyster Bay (2nd woman 25-29 age group), Jean Bohan of Oyster Bay (1st woman 40-44 age group), Kevin Gianetti of Oyster Bay (2nd 45-49 age group), Joanne Gallo of Oyster Bay (2nd woman 60-64 age group), and Nina Jennings of Mill Neck (1st woman 75-79 age group).

Greater Long Island Running Club Secretary Linda Ottaviano (who competed in the Run and scored first among the women in the 55-59 age group) was effusive in her praise for those who made the event possible: “Supervisor John Venditto and the town board have been incredible supporters of local recreational sports, and we are thrilled that Councilman Chris Coschignano has now brought his law firm Sahn Ward Coschignano & Baker on board as our presenting sponsor. A special thank you goes to Bob Cook and the Runner’s Edge for helping us to bring Long Island’s fastest runners to Oyster Bay every year!”
