76-year-old country singer, Loretta Lynn was hospitalized this past weekend and forced to cancel upcoming tour dates.
Doctors diagnosed Lynn with the beginning stages of pneumonia and says Lynn “will continue to need rest.” Lynn was forced to cancel tour dates Saturday and Sunday in both Kentucky and North Carolina.
“Loretta regretfully must cancel her shows for Ashland Ky, and Durahm, NC for this weekend, due to illness,” reads a statement on her websitewww.lorettalynn.com. “Loretta is doing well and is disappointed but feels confident she will be ready for upcoming November dates.”
Lynn has had a a string of health problems recently. According to the NY Daily News, in August, Lynn canceled shows because of knee surgery and before that was forced to cancel shows in Ohio and Connecticut due to hospitalization for heat exhaustion.
The Kentucky native is best known for her 60s hits, “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” and “You Ain’t Woman Enough.” Over her career, Lynn charted 16 number 1 hits, out of 70 charted songs. Her songs focused on blue collar women’s issues, which is partly to thank for the songs’ success. She sang about double standards for men and women, like “Rated X,” and birth control like in “The Pill.”
In 1976, her autobiography became a bestseller and in 1980, was made into a film “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and starred Sissy Spacek and Tommy Lee Jones.
Recently, Lynn’s 2004 album “Van Lear Rose,” topped the charts and in 2005, she won two Grammy Awards.
