Special Thanks to the Fire Department
Special thanks is due to the fire department for their efforts in making Fire Prevention Day/Week the success that it was. Our fire department puts a lot of time, effort and expense into this project, which is designed to make the residents and children aware of the inherent dangers in household fires. If you were not able to attend this past Sunday, Oct. 16, please make an effort for your own safety, and the safety of your children, to attend next year. Chief Charles S. Cavarra and our fire department do an outstanding job protecting our lives and homes and we are grateful for their dedication to the community.
Thank You for Participating in the Village Blood Drive
I would like to thank the residents and employees who donated blood last Wednesday, Oct. 12. I am pleased to report that 23 pints of blood were collected. You can feel proud of your personal involvement in helping those who depend on blood for life-giving support.
Since there is no substitute for human blood, and no way of knowing when it may be needed to save or sustain the life of a family member, a co-worker, a friend or other members of the community, we must know that enough blood is available at all times to meet the needs of our area hospitals and their patients. For every pint of blood donated, three patients are helped. This can only be done through the generosity of your blood donations.
Again, thank you and we look forward to your participation in our next blood drive, which will take place in March of 2012.
Police Department Advises Residents to Lock Their Car Doors
In recent weeks reports have been filed with the police department by residents who have experienced entry into their unlocked vehicles, which were parked in their driveway during the evening. In most cases materials were removed from the console and glove box. The police department recommends that residents take caution and lock automobile doors, set the alarm and also keep their exterior front door light or other lights on that would illuminate their driveways and discourage criminal activity.
If you see or hear anything suspicious please call the Garden City Police Department. Our police department is here to help and protect our residents, but they cannot be omnipresent in the village, they rely on your help. Better to call us before, to prevent a problem, than later to investigate a crime scene.
Please Do Your Part to Keep Garden City Pedestrian Friendly
Residents are reminded that it is their responsibility to maintain the shrubs and trees on their property to assure that branches do not overhang and obstruct the Incorporated Village by doing your part to keep Garden City a pedestrian friendly community.
Board of Trustees’ Meeting Schedule
The next regularly scheduled board of trustees’ meetings for the month of November are Nov. 3 and 17. I encourage all residents to attend board of trustees meetings so as to be thoroughly informed of village issues from a first-hand perspective.
Village’s Website
The village’s official website is under total redesign and will be revealed during the first week in December. The newly added features will include easy to use access bars as well as the ability to pay both tax and water bills online.
