County Hosts Annual Veterans’ Service at Eisenhower Park

On Sunday, Nov. 6 Nassau County hosted its annual Veterans Day Service in cooperation with the United Veterans Organization (UVO) of Nassau County, Inc. and the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency at the Veterans Memorial in Eisenhower Park.

The program was dedicated to honoring all veterans. Following the advancement of Color Guards, led by the United States Marine Corps Color Guard from the 1st Marine District in Garden City and the Nassau County Police Department Pipes and Drums Band County Executive Mangano recognized veterans who served during the Vietnam War eras with special certificates in appreciation of their service to our nation.

Acting Director of the New York State Division of Veterans Affairs William A. Kraus was the event’s guest speaker. Kraus was appointed to the position in June 2010; he is a retired Naval Ensign, and also the son of a Naval boatswain.  

County Executive Mangano also unveiled a newly completed restroom facility adjacent to the Memorial for the convenience of memorial visitors.  

Vietnam War Era veterans who were unable to attend the service can collect their certificates at the County Executive’s Office located at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building, 1550 Franklin Avenue in Mineola.
