Holiday Fair

Handmade fall and Christmas home decorations, crafts, gifts, baby quilts, homemade cakes and cookies and an Attic Treasures table. Lions Club Peace Poster Contest Exhibit

The Plainview Bethpage Lions Club is sponsoring students from Plainview Old Bethpage Middle School who participate in the Lions Clubs International Peace Poster contest. This year’s theme is “Children Know Peace.” Students create posters and briefly explain their interpretation of this theme. The Plainview Library will exhibit the poster winner and runners-up from grade 8. The winning poster will be sent to the Lions Clubs District 20K2 for further judging. The exhibit will be held through Nov. 13. All welcome to view these talented artists.

Tzu Chi Long Island Flu Vaccination/Health Promotion

Tzu Chi Foundation LI branch is hosting a Flu Vaccination and Health Promotion event. According to CDC, everyone should be vaccinated against flu. We will only be vaccinating 18 or older for this event. Participants should not have a fever, be allergic to egg, or have a adverse reaction to prior flu shot. Flu shots will be free to the uninsured. Bring your insurance card if you have one. Instead of going to a doctor when you are sick, we would like to prevent diseases from happening in the first place. Come and consult free with a dentist, a nurse, and a physical therapist about dental hygiene, health promotion, blood sugar, smoking cessation, vegetarian diet, exercise, BMI and blood pressure. 10 a.m. to noon at Tzu Chi L.I. Driver Safety Course

The Brotherhood of Temple Beth Elohim is sponsoring a Driver Safety Course on Nov. 14 and Nov. 16 from 6 to 10 p.m. Attendance at both sessions is required. The registration fee is $14 ($12 for AARP members). The registration fee is waived for veterans, in recognition of their service. NC District Attorney Kathleen Rice will be the keynote speaker at the annual meeting. Topic: How to keep Nassau County residents safe from cyber stalking, sex predators, domestic abuse and drunk drivers. •Nov. 16, 30: Creating Extraordinary Mind and Body Wellness. •Nov. 17: November Healing Circle encourages balance of body, mind and spirit. This is done through a natural energy healing and relaxation technique involving light touch. •Nov. 20: Monthly Meditation: Helping Infants to Elderly Create Healthier Lives. Have you ever wanted to learn to meditate or at the very least quiet your mind? Stroke Support Groups

Stroke Life Society is a community organization of survivors and co-survivors in the pursuit of living and helping others. A stroke can be very isolating. Weekly Events

•Family Support Group, an ongoing support group for those who have family members or other loved ones with mental illness. Meets on Mondays from 7 to 8 p.m. at Central Nassau Guidance & Counseling Services, 950 South Oyster Bay Rd. The fee is $5 per family. In addition to verbal support, the group presents guest lecturers, workshops, education programs and holds social events. For information call 822-6111.

•Plainview-Old Bethpage Community Chorus welcomes new members. Meetings are held Monday nights at 7:30 p.m. in the choral room of POB Middle School. All voices are needed and no experience is necessary. Rehearsals run from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. For information call 931-4377 or 935-6243.

For people 18 to 21 who are recovering from drug addiction. The goals are to enhance skills, increase self-awareness and work toward a drug and alcohol-free life. •Meet the Doctors. Focusing on education, Premiere OBGYN will sponsor a Meet the Doctors program on the first Tuesday of each month from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at 79 Froelich Farm Blvd., Woodbury. Women who are planning a pregnancy or are already expecting can join Drs. Prince, Brooks and Flynn and have their questions answered on conception and a safe pregnancy.

•Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) was founded in 1978, is congressionally chartered and exclusively dedicated to Vietnam-era veterans and their families. •Italian Culture Society at Farmingdale meets the last Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at Ellsworth W. Allen Park, Motor Ave. Italian lessons are given by a native Italian teacher. •Central Oyster Bay Democratic Club (COBDC) meets the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the community room at Ellsworth Allen Park, Motor Ave., Farmingdale. All are welcome to attend. The club serves the communities of Plainview, Bethpage, Old Bethpage, Farmingdale, North Massapequa, Massapequa Park and Massapequa. •Introduction to Chemotherapy, a monthly information session for cancer patients who are beginning chemotherapy treatments. Family members are welcome. Refreshments served. Nurses with special training, dietitians and other professionals present information that can help individuals understand, and cope with, the effects of chemotherapy treatments. There is also an opportunity to share information with others who may have been through similar situations.
