The Hunger Games Trailer was just released—The trailer debuted on “Good Morning America.”

It comes as the big screen adaptation of the first book from a Suzanne Collins book series—The Hunger Games was originally published on Sept. 14, 2008 by Scholastic. It came as the first book of the Hunger Games trilogy and is followed by Catching Fire and Mokingjay.

The book follows Peeta and Katniss, two District 12 residents who are forced into participating in “Hunger Games,” (by lottery drawing) a televised event in which the tributes must fight to the death in an outdoor arena, until one survivor remains.

“Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games,” reads a synopsis for the movie. “A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games.”

The movie adaptation is directed by Gary Ross and according to the Huffington Post, stars Jennifer Lawrence, who plays Katniss.

According to CBS, the trailer revealed many more characters than the teaser revealed this summer—The trailer also introduces fans to new characters, Peeta, played by Josh Hutcherson, Gale, played by Liam Hemsworth, Effie Trinket, played by Elizabeth Banks, Cinna, played  by Lenny Kravitz, and President Snow, played by Donald Sutherland.

“The Hunger Games” is set to hit theaters on March 23, 2012.
