Virginia Slutter Knows Oyster Bay
Virginia Slutter recognized the mystery photograph in the Nov. 10 issue of the Enterprise Pilot. She said, “It’s the construction site and rent-a-fence with sandbags on it – at the entrance to Roosevelt Park. The booth is on the right hand side; and the construction vehicles are behind the rent-a-fence that is held down by the sand bags.”
She is correct!
Billy Minicozzi said the same thing but differently, that, “It is a bunch of sandbags by a wire fence in Roosevelt Park near the information booth, which is near Firemen’s Field.” On a sports note, he commented on Penn State getting a new football coach as a result of the sex abuse case that was reported in the media. He added, “Good luck to Penn State as they go through trying times.”
Belle Santora called and said in a jolly voice. “I’ve been out of the paper too long. I just opened the paper and the mystery picture is the entrance to Theodore Roosevelt beach. The photo was taken when they were fixing it. It’s beautiful.
“I’m on earth again,” she joked, in that her presence on earth is assured during last week. We had a wonderful chat but it was all off the record. She did however mention that she and her husband Joe would do the peabody. It’s a very interesting dance you rarely hear about nowadays. How many of you remember it?
And, we have been thinking of adding a column on growing up in Oyster Bay and we see this is a perfect venue for readers to comment on. Do you have any memories of going to the beach in Oyster Bay? Just send an email to D_Karppi@antonnews.com and put Growing Up in OB in the subject line.
