Chinese Theatre Works at Long Island Children’s Museum

Chinese Theatre Works presents “Hao Bang Ya, Rabbits!” Friday, November 25 at 1 and 3 p.m. and Saturday, November 26 at 1 p.m. “Hao Bang Ya” is a common Chinese expression meaning “Great!” or “Well done!” This show features a selection of puppet vignettes; many based on popular songs and well-known Chinese sayings. While some parts of the program are performed in Chinese, all include English explanations. Sing-alongs, audience participation and hands-on demonstrations make it fun for all audience members. Ages: 3 and up. Fee: $4 with museum admission, $3 LICM members, $8 Theater Only.

Veggie Volume at Long Island Children’s Museum

From 2:30-4:30 p.m. Veggie Volume. Yes, your parents were right when they told you not to play with your food, but today is the exception! Join us as for a fun, healthy and educational workshop inspired by the famous Vienna Vegetable Orchestra. Learn how to shape a variety of musical instruments using carrots, cucumbers, peppers, eggplants and beans as we play along in our own vegetable symphony. The Get Up and Go! series is sponsored by a grant from the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York.  All ages. Free with museum admission. All activities will be held at the Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Avenue, Garden City, NY. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Museum admission: $11 for adults and children over 1 year old, $10 seniors, free to museum members and children under 1 year old. Additional fees for theater and special programs may apply. A Christmas Carol Returns to Tilles Center on November 27

NTC Productions’ delightful presentation of Charles Dickens’ holiday classic, A Christmas Carol, returns by audience demand to Tilles Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, November 27 at 2 p.m. The fully staged musical production will offer holiday excitement for the whole family, with beloved holiday songs, amazing “spirits” of Christmas past, present and future, and of course, Ebenezer Scrooge and the whole Cratchit family. Tickets to the performance are $50, $35 and $20. This Yuletide tradition was adapted for the stage by Charles Jones, of the Omaha (Nebraska) Community Playhouse, and has been touring the country since 1979. It is one of the most widely viewed productions of the Dickens tale in the nation, performed annually for over 100,000 people in more than 60 cities. Nassau County Mobile Outreach Project at Hillside Library

Nassau County’s Mobile Outreach Project will visit the Hillside Public Library on November 29 from 11a.m. to 2p.m.  At that time, residents may meet individually with representatives of all county departments to address issues of concern to them.  No appointments are needed.

Thrift Shop Christmas Sale

The Thrift Shop sponsored by Resurrection and St. Aidan Churches will be having an extended Christmas sale starting Dec. 1. Some Christmas items are already on sale. The hours are Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The church is located on the corner of Campbell Ave. and Center St., Williston Park. Visit Santa, Santa’s Elves, Reindeer and Snowman

A chance to visit Santa, his elves, reindeer and snowman at 94 Primrose Drive, New Hyde Park, the home of the Esteves family.  From 7 to 9 p.m. In memory of Helen and Vincent Cuomo.  Also on December 3 at same hours.  Donations would be greatly appreciated and will be given to the American Cancer Society.

The New Hyde Park Village will hold its Annual Christmas Tree Lighting at 3:30 p.m. Prior to that the children of the village will be treated to a show at Marcus Christ Hall.

Williston Park Village to Hold Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony

The Village of Williston Park will hold its Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6 p.m. as the Williston Park fire truck arrives with Santa, Rudolf and the reindeers. They will then go to the fire house around the corner where they will be serving hot chocolate and cookies.

Kiwanis Club to Hold Annual K-Family Pancake Breakfast

On Sunday, December 4 from 8 a.m. to noon the Kiwanis Club of New Hyde Park-Floral Park will be hosting its Annual K-Family Pancake Breakfast at Marcus Christ Hall located next to New Hyde Park Village Hall (the southwest corner of New Hyde Park Road and Jericho Turnpike). The cost of the breakfast is $3 for adults and $2 for seniors & students (kids under 8 Free!). We are asking community members to bring new toys, clothing and shoes for 5 families in need this holiday season. Gift cards and direct contributions will also be accepted. Lecture on the History and Art of Chocolate Tasting

Roxanne Browning, chocolate sommelier and owner of Exotic Chocolate Tasting, will present a free lecture: “The History and Art of Chocolate Tasting” at 7:30 p.m. on December 5 at the Shelter Rock Public Library. Join a guided tasting as our guest speaker shares artisan organic dark chocolates from around the world. Learn about the many nuances of chocolate, what to look for or avoid on a label, the health benefits, and the history of chocolate. Discover how cocoa farming helps the rain forests and their indigenous people. No tickets are required. Seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. The Herricks School Board to meet with the Middle School Students at the Middle School.  The meeting will start at 7 p.m. and break at 7:30 p.m. to meet with the students.  The Herricks Middle School is located at 7 Hilldale Drive, Albertson.

The One and Only Santa Claus

The William Gill Theater atop the New Hyde Park Village Hall, corner of New Hyde Park Road and Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park will present The One and Only Santa Claus at 2 p.m. and again on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. Admission is $2. Tickets may be purchased at village hall from Monday to Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
