Toys for Tots Holds its Kick-Off Luncheon

Toys for Tots, once again through the courtesy of Gary Melius, held its kick-off luncheon at Oheka Castle.

Organizer of the entire program is Major Chuck Kilbride with the help this year of Coordinator Gunnery Sgt. Steven Covington and Assistant Coordinator Brian Gomez.

As usual, the event was packed with more than 700 people attending, as some in attendance started the ball rolling by bringing along with them unwrapped toys to add to the growing pile of toys.

Once collected, these toys will be distributed to the needy children on Long Island so they will not be disappointed when Christmas comes around this year, and this year, due to the economy, that need is growing.

Anyone in the area wishing to donate to this very worthy cause, may drop an unwrapped toy off at the Anton Community Newspapers, 132 East 2nd Street, Mineola and it will be delivered to Major Chuck Kilbride and the Marines by Dec. 17, which is the end of the drive.
