John Keating Sands, of Glen Cove, died on Nov. 19, 2011. Born March 1, 1922, the son of William F. Sands and Edith Keating Sands of Washington, DC, he attended Landon School and graduated from Portsmouth Abbey School, the University of North Carolina and NY University Graduate School of Finance. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict and began his professional career at McKinsey & Company. He was later employed by Dillon, Read & Co., W.C. Langley & Company and Morgan Guaranty Trust Co. He served as director of New York Capital Resources, Auerbach Pollak & Richardson, Laidlaw Equities and Saugatuck Capital among others.
Survivors include Elizabeth Petty, Catherine Sands, John Sands Jr. and Margaret Witham, their spouses, nine grandchildren and his former wife Patricia Pulling Sands. His three brothers, James, William F. and Robert J. predeceased him.
Arrangements were made by the McLaughlin Kramer Megiel Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26 at St. Hyacinth Church, 319 Cedar Swamp Rd., Glen Head. Gifts in lieu of flowers to: Portsmouth Abbey School, 285 Corys Ln. Portsmouth, RI 02871.
