Girl Scouts of NC To Perform

Musical Keys Concert
The North Shore Symphony Orchestra opens its 51st season with a concert at 8 p.m. at the Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School, 50 Kennedy Dr., Plainview. Entitled “Musical Keys” the concert will feature three talented young pianists from the tri-state area who won the Concert Festival’s competition in 2011. Each winner will be perform the opening (first) movement of piano concerti – Maxim Lando from Great Neck (Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 1); Elena Gribelyuk from Stamford, CT (Mozart Piano Concerto No. 17) and Kira Prabhu from Berkeley Heights, NJ (Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 2). Also included in the evening’s concert will be performances by NSSO of Mozart’s Overture to the Abduction from the Seraglio and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 in E minor. NSSO’s Music Director and Conductor Susan Deaver will conduct the concert. Tickets: General admission $12; seniors/students $10. Jingle Bell 5K Run/Walk
Join the Arthritis Foundation for its Jingle Bell 5K Run/Walk at Old Bethpage Village Restoration. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The event is a fun, festive way to kick-off the holidays including a holiday costume contest and Kids Fun Run. Proceeds from the event will allow us to continue providing programs and services to the 500,000 Long Islanders – including children – with doctor-diagnosed arthritis. America’s Poets Walk With Walt
The program, which will be held at the birthplace of America’s Good Gray Poet at 246 Old Walt Whitman Rd., Huntington Station, will be hosted by Whitman Birthplace Writer in Residence George Wallace. The program will pair a nationally prominent visiting writer with one of Long Island’s fine regional poets for a program of poetry and conversation.
