Katie Couric is officially back on the market.

Page Six first reported on Couric’s relationship status and that the former CBS anchor split with boyfriend Brooks Perlin.

A source noted that they will remain friends, telling Page Six, “Brooks is a great person and a real gentleman,” but that after five years,”they have decided it was time to go their separate ways.”

A rep for Couric also confirmed the split to Us Weekly.

The journalist had been dating Perlin for five years. They met back in 2006, at a fundraiser for cancer research.

The reason for the split is currently unknown but one thing was sure, the relationship had its complications.

“I am really happy in my personal life. But it is complicated,” Couric once reportedly admitted of the relationship.

For one, the couple had been criticized for the large age gap. Couric is 54, while Perlin is 37. She once admitted the age difference had caused a lot of criticism, reportedly telling People Magazine she was ‘courgared’ and had ‘been called all kinds of things.”

Soon after news of the split broke, Perlin was said to have also moved out of the journalist’s Manhattan home.

Single and a new show, Couric has a lot to look forward to in the coming year.

Couric is set to host a daytime talk show that will debut in September 2012. The show will be called Katie and the first episode is set to debut September 6. At the same time, she will also reportedly contribute to ABC News programming.

Couric had previously been married. She married Jay Monaham in 1989, but lost her husband, to colon cancer in 1998. Couric has two daughters, Ellie, 20, and Carrie, 15.
