Swiss drug maker Novartis announced a massive recall of Excedrin, NoDoz and others Sunday.
“These actions have been communicated to the US Food and Drug Administration,” said Novartis as they announced the mass recall. The company also noted that they’re working closely with the FDA and will continue to do so throughout this process.
Reportedly, the problem is broken and chipped pills that could cause pills to be mixed up.
According to the Associated Press, the company said it wanted to make sure customers didn’t take any pills that they might be allergic to or may be dangerous when mixed with other medication.
“NCH is taking this action as a precautionary measure, because the products may contain stray tablets, capsules, or caplets from other Novartis products, or contain broken or chipped tablets,” said Novartis in a release.
Novartis is recalling specific sizes of bottles of Excedrin and NoDoz with expiration dates of December 20, 2014, or earlier. Some bottles of Bufferin and Gas-X with expirations dates of December 20, 2013 or earlier are also being recalled. Sizes that the recall includes can be found on the Novartis website.
At the moment, there have been no reports of people getting sick from the mix up.
The company asks consumers to discontinue use and return bottles.
“As this is a voluntary recall at the consumer level, Novartis Consumer Health advises consumers who have purchased these recalled products to discontinue use and return them to Novartis Consumer Health for a full refund,” said Novartis.
Consumers that have the products that are being recalled should contact the Novartis Consumer Relationship Center at 1-888-477-2403 and return the affected products as well as receive reimbursement.
