Etta James, the popular blues singer known for her songs “At Last,” and “Tell Mamma” has died, according to multiple reports. She was 73.

The soulful singer was diagnosed with leukemia in 2010 and she was considered terminally ill, according to her live-in doctor, Dr. Elaine James who is not related to the singer.

In an interview last month with The Press Enterprise, the doctor said James was suffering from “many medical problems,” adding that the diagnosis was also made by an oncologist and an internist at a local hospital.

James was also suffering from dementia and chronic kidney disease, her doctor said.

She died at a hospital in Riverside, California, according to reports.

James, also known as “Miss Peaches,” won six Grammy awards in her lifetime and was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. James suffered from drug addiction during her career and battled back to open for the Rolling Stones in 1978.

Her voice spanned several genres—blues, jazz and R&B—and she earned induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.

Producer Jerry Wexler once described James as “the greatest of all modern blues singers…the undisputed Earth Mother,” according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame website.

The talented singer suffered from a number of diseases in recent years and required the assistance of a live-in doctor. Her doctor said back in December that James wasn’t able to communicate much, adding that she would get a couple of yes or no answers from the singer. “But generally she’ll fall back asleep.”

The doctor said she was informing people about James’ condition to ask “for prayers of her fans and friends.”
