Rep. McCarthy on Dr. King: An Inspiration as I Fight for What’s Right in Congress
Rep. Carolyn McCarthy issued the following statement on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose birthday is observed every third Monday of January:
“As one who has dedicated my public life to nonviolence and social and economic fairness for all, I cannot overstate the powerful legacy left by Martin Luther King, Jr. and how much of an inspiration he is to me as I fight for what’s right in the halls of Congress.
“Whether it’s fighting against the scourge of gun violence, or the partisanship of Washington, or attacks on programs that protect seniors and children, or policies that hurt American workers, Dr. King’s example of courage and strength always looms large and gives me the strength to keep fighting.
“I owe a debt of gratitude to Dr. King for his leadership and hope that Americans for generations to come continue to keep his legacy alive.”
