Picture 26A former “American Idol” took the stage to kick off the Super Bowl Sunday Feb. 5 with an amazing performance of the national anthem.

The original “American Idol” Kelly Clarkson belted out the famous song lyrics with the help of a choir before Sunday’s kickoff.

Clarkson took the stage after Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert’s performance of “America the Beautiful.” It was smooth sailing for Clarkson, who wowed the crowd with an impressive performance.

Though the superstar is best known for her strong vocals that won her the super competitive “American Idol” competition, she admitted she was nervous prior to the performance.

“Just finished rehearsing the anthem in Indy … wow, I’m actually really nervous about singing at the Super Bowl ha!” she said on her WhoSay account.

“Here’s hoping I nail it and don’t screw it up!”

Clarckson noted her nerves again after the performance, saying,  “Guess what ….I’ve never been more nervous in my life than singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl tonight ….wow that was almost not fun I was so nervous! Fun night overall though! Thank you everybody for all of the nice things you’re saying about my performance! I really appreciate it :)”

Especially nerve wracking as it follows Christina Aguilera’s flub before the 2011 Super Bowl-–Last year, Christina Aguilera mixed up the lines of the famous song.

Aguilera, who has sung the national anthem an many occasions in the past successfully, belted out “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last reaming” instead of “O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming.”

Check it out.
