UPDATE: PAPA JOHN’S HAS DELAY, PROMISES YOU WILL GET YOUR CODE

Papa John’s Reward Club members called the coin toss right, winning free pizza Sunday.

During the days leading up to the Super Bowl Papa John’s posed a challenge: if rewards club members called the coin toss right before the Super Bowl kickoff, they would score a free large one-topping pizza and 2-liter Pepsi Max.

The challenge kicked off in January with fans signing up for Papa John’s Rewards Club and voting on what they thought the coin would land on.

Voters chose which side of the coin it would be on via a popular vote Jan. 22 through Feb. 1 at the Papa John’s website.  All votes were counted Feb. 2 and on the following day, Papa John’s founder, Papa John Shatner, announced the results: 60 percent for heads and 40 percent tails. Heads it is.

“Occurring between the singing of the National Anthem and kickoff, the Super Bowl coin toss puts viewers on the edge of their seats,” said Papa John’s in a press release. “and players and coaches simply on edge.”

The millions of customers enrolled in the program were on edge too, crossing their fingers that their call was correct and would score them free pizza.  At around 6:30 p.m., Feb. 5, the coin toss was with Papa John’s, it was heads.

“No matter which team you are rooting for, everyone enrolled in Papa Rewards walks away a winner after Super Bowl XLVI,” said John Schnatter, Papa John’s Founder, Chairman and CEO in a press release. “It’s our way of celebrating a terrific NFL season and rewarding our loyal Papa Rewards customers.”

Members will now be waiting for an email from Papa John’s Monday Feb. 6 detailing how to get the free grub.

UPDATE: According to the Papa John’s Twitter page, “Papa Reward members will receive an email this evening on how to claim their #freepapajohns and Pepsi Max. Thank you!”
