Free Heart-Health Screenings

Give your heart a valentine with a free screening sponsored by the North Shore-LIJ Department of Public Health Education. Free, multi-faceted heart-health screenings are available at Plainview Hospital, Conference Rooms A and B. Appointments are required and a limited number of appointments available, so be sure to call ahead to reserve your spot 719-2518. Participants must be 18 years or older. Screenings include blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, height and weight, heart-health education.

LI Roller Rebels

2012 season opener will take place at Skate Safe America, 182 Bethpage Sweet Hollow Rd., Old Bethpage. Doors will open at 6 p.m., with the first whistle at 7 p.m. Prepare yourself for a rocking night as LI Roller Rebels All-Stars and the Rock-a-Betty Bruisers join forces on the track at the first Pink vs. Black bout of the year. The fresh bloods will make their debut on the track. Additionally, several Roller Rebels have been torso casted to support breast cancer awareness. These beautiful molds have been transformed into artistic master pieces and will be auctioned off during the bout. One hundred percent of the money raised via the raffles for the casts will be donated to the Keep a Breast Foundation. •Feb. 4, 11, 18, 25: Kripalu Yoga/Stretch Class with Anusara influence. Class includes instruction in various breathing techniques, gentle and deep stretching, and strengthening muscles and bones. Stroke Support Groups

Stroke Life Society is a community organization of survivors and co-survivors in the pursuit of living and helping others. A stroke can be very isolating. By sharing experiences and encouraging one another, together we can face and overcome common challenges. All welcome. RSVP is requested but not required. •Golf for Singles Adults, a group of 50 + single seniors meet the third Tuesday of every month, at 7:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, Sunnyside Blvd., Plainview. For info call 942-4228. The group plays on courses, mostly in Suffolk on the weekends as well as during the week.

• Central Oyster Bay Democratic Club (COBDC) meets the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the community room at Ellsworth Allen Park, Motor Ave., Farmingdale. All are welcome to attend. The club serves the communities of Plainview, Bethpage, Old Bethpage, Farmingdale, North Massapequa, Massapequa Park and Massapequa. •LI Stock Traders Meetup Group held on the second Thursday of every month from 6:45 to 9:15 p.m. in the Plainview-Old Bethpage Library auditorium, 999 Old Country Rd.

•Free Walk-In Stroke Support Group offered by Plainview Hospital every fourth Thursday of the month at 2 p.m. in Conference Rooms A and B, lower level, 888 Old Country Rd. Learn about risks, warning signs and treatments and hear medical specialists speak about the health issues concerning stroke and stroke prevention. Child and Adult Food Program

All children in attendance will be offered the same meals at no separate charge, with no physical segregation of, or other discriminating against, any child because of race, color, age, national origin, sex or handicap. At Reflection Counseling Center

•Adolescent Group for youth who are struggling with abstinence from alcohol or drugs. Group sessions focus on education, communication skills, relationships and self-esteem issues. The group meets Wednesdays at 7 p.m. Call for information on joining. All inquiries are confidential.

•Eating Disorder Treatment, a weekly group for anorexia, bulimia and compulsive overeating on Tuesdays from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Sliding scale fee. Call to register.

•Parent Group for those parents struggling with their child’s use of alcohol and/or drugs. Group sessions focus on parenting and communication skills and education. The group meets Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. Call to register. All inquiries are confidential.

•Stop Smoking Program for substance abusers.

•Women’s Issues Group for women who are in recovery from alcohol and/or drugs. Wednesdays at 7 p.m. Group sessions focus on those issues of communication skills, relationships and self-esteem. All inquiries are confidential.
