One place badly hit was Henryville, Indiana. Henryville, about 20 miles north of Louisville, was hit with an F4 tornado this weekend that tore through the small Indiana town, wreaking havoc on the region and its residents.

The town sustained winds between 166 mph and 200 mph, reported CNN, which put it in the top 2 percent of tornados strength. Some schools reportedly dismissed students early and families huddled in their homes waiting for the storms to pass.

Other twisters hit Kentucky, Ohio and Alabama.

As Time reports, authorities aren’t sure how many tornadoes were involved Friday, though over 35 deaths have been reported in five states since the start of tornado season which FEMA says is March.”Peak tornado season in the southern states is March through May,” reads FEMA.com.”In the northern states, it is late spring through early summer.”

CNN reported that 37 were killed in total: 20 in Kentucky, 12 in Indiana, three in Ohio and one each in Alabama and Georgia.

An AP video went viral following the disaster and shows a massive twister brewing in Indiana.

“Storm chasers capture on video the destructive band of storms as it touched down in Indiana Friday near Henryville,” reads the caption. “There is extensive damage in the area with homes flattened and roofs ripped off.”
