San Francisco was rocked by a 4.o Magnitude earthquake early Monday.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake struck 1 mile outside of El Cerrito with a depth of 5.5 miles.
The quake struck at around 5:33 a.m. local time and was first reported to be a 4.3 magnitude quake. It was later downgraded to a 4.0 magnitude by the U.S. Geological Survey.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was a mile from East Richmond Heights, two miles from Richmond, four miles from Berkeley and 13 miles from San Francisco City Hall, reported L.A. Times.
In October, we reported on another quake that struck the region. On October 27, a 3.7 magnitude quake struck the east bay city of Berkeley. The quake struck at a depth of around 6 miles. It was centered on the campus of University of California Berkeley.
It followed a 4.8 magnitude earthquake that struck northern California a day earlier at 11:37 p.m. local time. It struck 9 miles outside of Whitehawk, California and 35 miles outside of Reno, NV.
A week before that, the San Francisco area was hit with two earthquakes that struck the same day as California’s annual earthquake preparedness drill took place—A 4.0 quake struck six miles beneath the University of California, Berkeley campus and six hours later, a 3.8 aftershock struck along the same fault line.
