The Division Avenue High School Wrestling Team returned from the 2012 Oneonta Tournament securing second place behind Burnt Hills. Fourteen schools participated in the tournament, each with only one wrestler per weight class. Division entered 12 competitors (out of 15 weight classes) and 11 of them placed.
First place winners were Thomas Maguffin and Jonathan Maldonado. Wil Rivas earned second place. Timothy Schweitzer and Brandon Crafa placed third. Fifth place was awarded to James Kirk, and sixth place finishers were Arthur Bain, Francis Alexander, John Bellucci, Jesse Pizarro and Renato Gamboa.
While at Oneonta, the Division team met the 1984 Greco-Roman Gold Medalist wrestler, Jeff Blatnick, who is on the Burnt Hills coaching staff.
The Varsity Wrestlers finished the season in third place with three wins and two losses in their league. Head Coach Bob Bennett and his assistants are looking forward to the post-season tournaments that are designed more for individual rather than team matches.
