For first time viewers, the series is set in the 1960s at fictional advertising agency Sterling Cooper on Madison Avenue in Manhattan. It follows Don Draper, who’s the creative director at the agency and founding parter at newly created Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce, and the people in his life including Peggy Olson, played by Elisabeth Moss, Pete Campell, played by Vincent Kartheiser, Betty Francis, played by January Jones, Roger Sterling, played by John Slattery and Joan Harris, played by Christina Hendricks.
