Calling all eager Easter egg hunters: Easter is upon us and before we know it the Easter Bunny will be hiding eggs for the children of Long Island to discover.

But what’s the deal with a bunny hiding eggs? It used to be forbidden for Catholics to eat eggs during the fast of Lent so Easter Sunday the Easter Bunny brings an abundance of eggs in celebration of Lent’s end. The Easter Bunny has been hiding eggs in the United States since the 18th century. If you’d like to join in on the tradition of participating in a Long Island Egg Hunt, there are a few different locations where the Easter Bunny will be tactfully placing pastel-dyed eggs. The following is a listing of upcoming egg hunts which are located throughout the island. Find one that is close to you, grab a basket and don’t forget your Easter bonnet!
