In an interview with CNN Bill Cosby explained that the main issue was about racism, but  problems with gun control laws.

Cosby made a gesture with his fingers to make a point when he said in the CNN interview, “This, and what is he doing with it, and who taught him and told him how to behave with this, it doesn’t make any difference if he’s racist or not racist.”

George Zimmerman was charged with murder in the second degree last week. Zimmerman shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in the chest was he was walking home from a convenience store. Though 28-year-old George Zimmerman claimed he shot Martin in self-defense, Martin’s parents and millions of people who heard the story, believe Zimmerman shot Martin after racially profiling him.

“You’ve got to protect yourself in your own home, but I also believe that when you tell me that you’re going to protect the neighborhood that I live in, I don’t want you to have a gun,” Cosby said. “I want you to be able to see something, report it and get out of the way.”

Cosby’s only son, Ennis, was a victim to gun violence in 1997. While he was changing his tire on the side of the road he was murdered by 27-year-old Michael Markhasev, a Ukrainian-born immigrant in a robbery attempt, reports CNN.

He believes that guns make people do things they normally would not think of doing if they did not have the gun, “When a person has a gun sometimes there mind clicks… it will straighten people out.”

Although Cosby is not against citizen’s having guns completely, he thinks the rules that go along with owning a gun should be more strict, “I just feel that this thing, we need to get rid of it on the streets and if people have one they should be checked out so thoroughly.”

Cosby ended the interview by saying, “What is solved by saying, ‘He’s a racist. That’s why he shot the boy.’ What solves that?”
