Countless people talk on their phones and walk without paying attention. Anything could happen. You could walk into a poll, a sign or even a person.

But have you ever imagined that the street you were walking on would just open up, sending you plummeting into a sink hole?

In a video that was posted by The Telegraph and unknowing girl was carelessly walking in North China, when suddenly the pavement below her feet falls out from under her and she vanishes from the street.

A surveillance camera was able to capture the unsuspecting moment where the girl’s ground falls out from under her.

A section of pavement caved in when the teenager weighed was dispersed on the walkway.

However, what helps make the video so engaging is the dramatic rescue attempt.

The moment the girl seemingly evaporates from the walkway, a taxi driver slams on his breaks and breathlessly runs to the girl’s aid. He is the first on the scene and gets right into action. He bends down towards the 20-foot hole and is ready to throw himself down there with her, even though the sink hole could open up wider and he could have faced a possibly injury.

The surveillance cameras were not the only ones filming the heroic man, his actions were caught by countless mobile camera phones and a close circuit television.

“I called out to her but she didn’t respond. After I shook her a little, she came to,” said Wang Wei, a taxi driver in the northern city of Xi’an.

He climbed down into the pit, only using a cable for support.

“The dirt kept showering down on us and the kid couldn’t stop crying,” he added.

The pavement collapsed under the girl’s feet due to erosion.

Firefighters came to their rescue. The taxi driver tried to keep the girl calm the whole time there were in the sink hole, “The ladder kept moving about, it’s a little flimsy and the girl kept screaming out of fear. So I told her to go first and I’ll be right behind her. Finally we managed to get out,” Wang said.
