Asian-American Cultural Festival
Celebrate diversity on Long Island by bringing the whole family to the 6th Annual Asian-American Cultural Festival in the Multi-Purpose Room of Farmingdale State College, 2350 Broadhollow Rd. The event features colorful displays, costumes, art exhibits and live traditional and contemporary entertainment from various parts of Asia. Feast on a selection of international foods at the outdoor food court. Watch exciting martial arts exhibitions. See a staged theater performance with professional singers and dancers. Listen to the sounds of WaFoo – the hottest Japanese jazz band in the tri-state area. And vie to become the first Asian-American (Festival) Idol by singing for charity (bring your own downloadable music for the karaoke machine) – with all proceeds going to Leadership Huntington. Rock Out Autism

Oral/Head/Neck Cancer Benefit
SPOHNC (Support of People with Oral Head and Neck Cancer), a patient-directed self-help organization, is dedicated to raising awareness and meeting the needs of oral and head and neck cancer patients and run by survivors. A benefit will be held in memory of Michael Henderson at the Stuart Thomas Manor, 2143 Boundary Ave, Farmingdale, at 7 p.m. Tons of food (chef donations requested), chef’s specialties prepared with the SPOHNC survivors in mind, drinks and delicious desserts. Active Parenting Program
Conducted by YES Community Counseling Center for parents of elementary school age children beginning today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Active Parenting is a six-session program that was established to equip parents to face the challenges during the lifelong journey as a parent. The program will help to enhance the skills parents already have, and/or incorporate new skills as children move through the different developmental times in their lives. The program will take place at the YES office, 75 Grand Ave., Massapequa. The cost of the program is $60 for Massapequa, Plainedge and Farmingdale residents; $80 for all others. SEPTA To Hold Flower/Plant Sale
Farmingdale Special Education PTA will host its annual flower and plant sale on from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Woodward Parkway Elementary School. Students will attend the sale with their classes. This annual fundraiser will feature flats of annuals, hanging baskets and much more. The money raised helps fund scholarships, awards, and other programs for their special needs students. The sale is open to the public.

Huge Scale Model Show
Get an entertaining, miniature glimpse into our past at NoreastCon 2012, LI’s largest scale model show. Sponsored by the LI Scale Model Society, this two-day event kicks off at 9 a.m. on May 5 and concludes May 6 at 5 p.m. There will be hundreds of models on exhibit next to full-size inspirations. Also includes exhibits, movies, seminars and activities or shop 60 tables of discount vendors. Raffles, re-enactors in uniform and free model-building clinics for kids will add to the fun and excitement. A must see for hobbyists, historians, artists, craftspeople, collectors, students, soldiers and veterans. The event is being held at the American Airpower Museum, 1230 New Highway, Farmingdale.
