Star Wars Day, happy it is. (Get it?)
If you’re wondering why some dude in your office is greeting everyone by saying, “May the 4th be with you,” it’s because Friday is Star Wars Day all around Earth and in distant planets like Naboo and Tatooine. (Sorry: the other planets were ruled out because of the time zone; it’s no longer May 4 in some areas of the galaxy. We received confirmation on that one.)
Star Wars’ official website is taking part in the fun, plastering Yoda on its homepage with the words: “May The 4th Be With You!”
Sure, just make it easier for George Lucas’ empire to sell DVDs, video games, cartoons, action figures and fake (we hope) light sabers.
Who else other than Star Wars fans would come up with such a great holiday just so they can celebrate the greatness that is Luke Skywalker, Yoda and Darth Vader?
Apparently, this one-day holiday to celebrate the epic films is a fan-generated event and didn’t come from the genius mind of Lucas, who in 1977 created a cult classic that will live on in movie lore.
After blowing everyone’s mind, Lucas came out with The Empire Strikes Back in 1980 and then three years later Return of the Jedi hit the big screen.
Lucas’ love spell was so strong that he was able to get away with doing things backwards; introducing the last three episodes first, and then coming out with Episode I more than twenty years after Episode IV came out.
