Grandmother and cheerleader aren’t two words normally heard in the same sentence, but 55-year-old Sharon Simmons doesn’t see anything wrong with it.

To be a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader is considered to be the top job for a professional cheerleader, so Simmons tried out for the team, the Huffington Post reports.

“I thought, that’s something I never tried,” Simmons told CBS DFW. “I always wanted to try out. I got real close in my early 20s, but got busy raising my daughter. And I thought, why not now?”

Simmons explained that though she really wanted to be a Dallas cheerleader, she became more involved with raising her family and gave up on her dream for a few decades.

The grandmother of two from Carollton, Texas works in real estate.  She also has been an author and competed in fitness competitions. Her interest in fitness has helped her retain fit bod so she is more than able to keep up with the younger girls.

“I don’t see a number,” she said to ABC News referring to her age before she auditioned for the Cowboys. “If I do, it’s just a number. It’s not that I can’t keep up with [younger women] in the physical part of the training.”

However, Simmons wouldn’t be the only grandmother on the field if Dallas decided to pick her for their team. The NFL already has their very own granny cheerleader; the Oakland Raiders have Suzie Sanchez cheering on Raiders fans, though she’s only 37-years-old.

If were chosen to be a part of the Dallas cheerleader team, she would be the oldest woman in history to make the league, surpassing a 42-year-old cheerleader, Laura Vikmanis.

While trying out with hundreds of other hopefuls over the weekend in the Cowboys Stadium, Simmons said: “It literally has been about the journey. I’ve met incredible people, I’ve learned so many new things.”
