Picture 56It’s true, Lakers star Kobe Bryant isn’t the person that we used to know, to some fans at least. And in a new video called “Kobye – The Kobe That We Used To Know” a singer explores Kobe’s past and present.

“Now and then I think about when you were much younger, you had a fro and said that Jordan should respect your game,” Dan Rib, wearing a Los Angeles Lakers jersey, sings in a new video that went viral May 23.

“With Shaq you won rings one, two, three but you didn’t like his company. You shipped him out and that’s an ache we all remember,” Rib sings, referring to Kobe’s rocky relationship with teammate Shaquille O’Neal.

“But you didn’t have to take that shot,” sings Rib before suggesting he pass it to two others, “When you keep it for yourself we never score enough.” Rib reminds Kobe, “You didn’t have to hog the ball,” before singing “You’re really not the Kobe that we used to know.” Rib soon goes into singing about how Kobe not only hogs the ball but also takes too many shots at the buzzer and sings “But I don’t want to lose that way, hoisting shots from very far away.”

According to the YouTube description, the song and video is the product of Dan Rib, Ken Belcher, and Toni Aubrecht. It’s proved quite popular in recent days, garnering over 300,000 views since being posted May 23.

The song is a remake of hit song “Somebody That I Used To Know” by Gotye and Kimbra. It was released back in 2011 in Australia and New Zealand before being released in the United States in January 2012 and becoming an instant hit. The indie pop song has since reached the top 10 in more than 30 countries around the globe, according to reports, and has become one of the best-selling digital singles of all time, selling over 7 million copies worldwide.
