Walk Like MADD
A non-competitive fundraising walk hosted by Mothers Against Drunk Driving. The event begins at 9 a.m., with the ceremony beginning at 10 a.m., on the Great Lawn at Farmingdale State College, 2350 Broadhollow Rd. Over 1500 participants are expected to come and show their support of MADD and its mission – to eliminate drunk driving, assist the victims of this violent crime and to prevent underage drinking. The event will be attended by dignitaries, supporters and most importantly family walk teams representing those loved ones who were killed or severely injured by drunk drivers. Annual Strawberry Festival
Held by the Farmingdale-Bethpage Historical Society on the Village Green at 2 p.m. A presentation of scholastic awards will be made, followed by the traditional strawberrys and ice cream dessert. Beverages will be served and home-baked cookies will be offered for sale. A choral concert by the Long Island Harmonizers will provide entertainment. This program is free and all are invited. An FBHS membership meeting will be held prior to the festival at 1:30 p.m. with announcements and the presentation of the executive board nominees for next year. The First Annual Farmingdale Knights of Columbus #2204 Benefit Breakfast will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at K of C 2204 Council, 1 Morton St. (off Route 109, behind 7-11) Cost: Free. Mobile Shredder
Farmingdale Baseball League (FBLI) will have a Mobile Shredder at its office at 66 Motor Ave., Farmingdale, from 2 to 4 p.m. Quality Shredding, a NAIS AAA Certified Mobile Shredder, will be there to shed attendees’ excess paper. Bring personal household documents, ATM receipts, old tax records, credit card statements, copies of bills, mail and any other papers containing information that could provide thieves an easy way to steal money or identity. No need to remove staples or paper clips. All documents are professionally shredded. All the paper is then recycled. Shred up to three standard size record storage boxes or three garbage bags for a $10 donation to the league. Enter for a chance to win a $100 Modells gift certificate for each donation. All proceeds go to assisting FBLI-run baseball and softball programs for the youth of the community.

Benefit For Local Firefighter
Kevin O’Toole is a volunteer firefighter with the Bethpage Fire Department. Kevin was critically burned in the line of duty in Prince George’s County, MD, where he also volunteers with the Bladensburg Fire Department. O’Toole was one of several firefighters injured in a blaze at a vacant home in Riverdale, MD. The burns to his legs, ankles, thighs, fingertips, arms, shoulders and abdomen are second and third degree to more than 50 percent of his body. It’s been a grueling rehabilitation, which included 10 skin graft surgeries to his stomach, arms, legs, and hands. Kevin continues his rehabilitation and physical therapy at the Nassau University Medical Center Burn Unit. The family lives in Hicksville. ‘To Grow Is To Know. To Know Is To Grow’ Exhibit
Paul Gatto was commissioned by the Farmingdale Library to paint a piece that was presented there on May 5. He was asked to come up with subject matter that would be significant for the library and that would display the computer age. Paul Gatto came up with a tree of knowledge as the main feature. The tree rises from a large volume with bits and bytes streaming as text. The painting on board is 55 inches by 61 inches and will hang permanently over the south side entrance.

Farmingdale Adult Day Care Center
A social day care program offering socialization and stimulation to persons 60 and over. The caring staff provides innovative activities for those who can no longer attend regular senior centers because of physical and/or mental impairment. It also affords respite to caregivers allowing them valued time to devote to matters of home or personal needs. This interfaith service meets on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 407 Main St. Support groups are also held once a month on Wednesdays. Adults and Children With Learning Disabilities
ACLD, a private not-for-profit agency, is offering individual and family counseling for the primary caregivers of individuals with developmental disabilities. Support groups are available for parents and siblings and new groups for senior parents, parents of transitioning high school students as well as a group for parents who have a developmental disability. Farmingdale United Methodist Nursery School
Offers classes for children from 18 months old through 5 years old where they can grow, play and learn together. The school offers a well-rounded program designed to stimulate the child creatively, socially, intellectually, physically and emotionally. Bring a Smile to a Poor Person’s Face
That is the invitation being sent across LI by Hope for the Future Ministries, a Farmingdale-based not-for-profit organization which helps the poor and homeless. •Divorce/Separation Support Group. DivorceCare helps people recover from the pain of separation and divorce. Become a part of a small support group of people who are experiencing the same. •Grief Recovery Support Group. GriefShare is a non-denominational, 13-week video seminar featuring interviews with leading authors, counselors, speakers and pastors with years of expertise in grief recovery. Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m.
Pretty New Thrift Shop
Donations are needed for the Pretty New Thrift Shop, 238 Main St., Farmingdale. The shop supports the work of Central Nassau Guidance and Counseling Services, Inc., a multi-service mental health and substance abuse agency located in Hicksville. Free Writer’s Workshops
Got a hidden talent? Why not share it and develop it at a free writer’s workshop? The LI Writer’s Guild is a friendly, Nassau County-based organization of amateur/professional, published/unpublished poets, essayists, novelists and short story writers who meet at informal workshops at the Levittown and Bethpage Libraries. Everything from plot development to characterization to basic literary theory for the fiction and nonfiction writer alike is discussed and practiced. There are reading and critiquing sessions and recommendations and contacts for the more serious writers seeking to publish their work is provided.
