Chico’s Bail Bond Cubs Vs. Modell’s Sporting Goods Braves
The Cubs had a tall order today coming up against a hot Braves team. Leading the Braves offensive charge was Kenny Hirschfeld and Ryan Wasserman with four hits each. Kenny had another big double and Ryan had four RBIs. Alan Sikora, Duhan Lee, Edward Mauceri and Christopher Chin had three hits each. Also contributing to the offensive was Christian Sikiric, Michael Paladino with two hits each and Anthony Levia with one hit. The defense was led by Ryan, Kenny and Christopher turning one great play after another. Ryan turned an unassisted double play and Michael turned in the play of the game with tremendous play at shortstop for the putout. The Braves are really starting to break stride and come together as the season comes to a close. The Cubs also played a very good game.
Stutzman Funeral Home Dodgers Vs. Dr. Barbaro, DPM, Cardinals
The Stutzman Funeral Home Dodgers had a fantastic instructional baseball session on a Saturday morning that looked to be rainy but turned out nice. After a few routine baseball drills, the Dodgers enjoyed their game against the Cardinals. Gia Campagnuolo and Thomas Slaski played the field well showing great improvement and rookie Michael Duda and Myles Brown both had nice hits off of the tee. Dylan Colon and Sabrina Derocchis played the infield gracefully and Aedan Cotter fielded a few firmly hit ground balls. Jeremy Chuck continues to hit and field well and young Ethan Goldberg is also connecting with the ball for good hits. Nicholas Gregory sprinted to first base in a flash when he hit the ball and fan favorite Ryan Louie kept the Cardinals at bay with his excellent fielding late in the second inning. The Dodger team has shown much improvement since they began six weeks ago and their fans are now true believers. Everyone is looking forward to next week, Championship Saturday, and some more baseball.
Dominick’s Italian/American Deli Diamondbacks Vs. NHP Fire District Marlins
It was hard to believe that the spring regular season was coming to an end. On their last game of the regular season, the Diamondbacks had fun and some new faces took the mound. Thomas, Nick and Matt Rubinic combined to get out of a sixth inning jam, Anthony Steves closed the game with an excellent appearance, Michael Campagnuolo got back on the mound and pitched out of trouble after walking the bases loaded, Matt Merolla had a great session in preparation for the playoffs, Brandon Colon continued to show that he wants to be part of the rotation, and Cenzo Montoni after having some control problems, displayed that he is a season veteran by bearing down and getting out of a bases loaded jam. Garrett Roth is getting his swing going at the right time and stroked a double to right. Liam Nihan is also getting hot as he had two hits. Jackson Benjamin had a another great defensive game behind the plate and helped the team with a base hit to drive in two. The diamondbacks are looking forward to making a playoff run for the championship.
St. John’s University Rockies Vs. Applebee’s Angels
The Rockies played one of their best games of the season both defensively and at the plate. Luke Notine started the game on the mound for the Rockies and worked through two solid innings. He threw strikes and got strong defensive support in the first, and then did a great job battling through some control issues in the second to stifle the Angels. Danny McClellan had a great day at the plate hitting a number of balls hard for base hits and then driving in two with a double to right center. Matt Strocchia had several great at bats but the Angels made nice plays on a couple of balls that Matt hit hard. He also took the mound in the third inning and shut the Angels’ offense down while Joe Muratore came in to pitch the fourth and fifth innings, and did a great job throwing strikes and limiting the Angels’ chances. Sam Motelson was on base all day showing great discipline at the plate, and taking advantage when he got pitches to hit. After catching two strong innings, Stephen Perno was in the middle of every Rockies rally having a great day at the plate, and Jeremy Wong had some great at bats and showed some real hustle on the base paths and in the field. Frankie Sannuti got hit by a pitch during his first at bat, but did a great job shaking it off, and showed great hustle throughout the game. Paul DePaulis made a number of strong defensive plays highlighted by a nice catch on a deep drive to center, and Eli Goldberger capped off a fantastic game which included a line drive base hit by gloving the final out on a pop-up to short. Great game Eli and way to go Rockies.
New Hyde Park Elks Royals Vs. Modell’s Sporting Goods Braves
The Royals and the Braves battled it out in a much anticipated match up after to consecutive rainouts. Leading the Braves’ offense was Alan Sikora and Christopher Chin with five hits each. Also contributing to the offensive surge was Kenny Hirchfeld with two big doubles, Ryan Wasserman, Duhan Lee and Christian Sikiric had four hits each. Anthony Levia and Edward Mauceri with three hits each. The defense was led by Anthony with a great tag at second base, holding onto the ball after a tremendous collision. Thankfully everyone was alright. Also contributing to our stellar defense was Edward with a good play in center field, Brian O’Conner with a good play at third and lastly Christian had two great putouts at second base. The Braves continue to show great teamwork and are playing like old pros. The Royals also played a very good game.
Modell’s Sporting Goods Braves Vs. Chico’s Bail Bonds Cubs
The Cubs faced a strong Braves team on a beautiful Sunday morning at Merillon field. The Cubs’ bats were alive with strong plate showings from James Asmus, Jack Karreff, Alex Isopo and Ben Harnick. Jordan Mayorga was also swinging the bat well running out a single up the first base line. Joseph Chimenti had another great game behind the plate spending an inning at second base as well. Vinay Patel had two put outs at short stop and Brendan Cooper made an unassisted double play on a pop up to first base. Jon David Zebitsch made two great stops on the pitcher’s mound and made a great out at third base.
Baxter’s BOLTS (15) Vs. Garden City Red (6)
Jillian “Cool” Cooper and Daniella “K” Connor combined six innings of great pitching, striking out 14 batters and making great plays in the field to get their 10th win of the season. Cooper caught a lunging one-handed catch off the mound. Cooper also had a big hit and scored two runs. Connor went four for four at the plate and caught a high pop up to end the game. Cece Schnall hit the ball hard twice, got a big hit and did another great job catching behind the plate. Amber Roggendorf walked twice and scored two big runs. Sarah Bush went three for three and scored a run. Sarah also had a great day catching behind the plate. Lauren Valencia went two for two and scored two runs. Lauren is becoming a big clutch hitter for the BOLTS. She also shows great speed on the bases. Samantha Grenard hit the ball hard, had a big hit and made a great throw to almost throw out a base runner from behind second base. Kaitlyn Stoyer walked once and scored a run. Kaitlyn also made a nice put out from second base. Haylie Lempert walked twice and scored one run. Haylie made a great catch on a high pop up to third base. Katie Gray had a big hit and scored two runs. Maggie Cullimore walked three times and scored two big runs. The BOLTS ended the season 10-0-1. A great season for all the girls. They played hard and supported their teammates the entire season. Most importantly, the girls had fun playing softball. Now it is on to the playoffs.
