The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 17-3 in game one of a day/night doubleheader on Saturday June 2 at Bethpage Ballpark. With the win, Kevin Baez earned his 100th win as manager of the Ducks. The second-year skipper led Long Island to a 78-47 record in 2011 during the regular season. Don McCormack has the most wins as a Ducks manager with 399 from 2001 to 2005.
The Revolution cracked the scoreboard first with a RBI single by Andres Perez to right field off Ducks starter Jason Monti in the second. Long Island would even it up in the bottom of the inning off Revs starter Junior Novoa when Wilberto Ortiz lifted a RBI sac fly to left.
The Ducks broke the game open with six runs in the third to take a 7-1 lead. A RBI double by Bryant Nelson, and a run-scoring single off the bat of Shawn Williams, a two-run double by Wilberto Ortiz and a RBI single from Dan Lyons highlighted the inning.
A solo homer by Matt Esquivel in the fourth and another six-spot in the sixth for Long Island would put the game well out of reach. RBI singles by Ray Navarrete and Williams, along with a three-run double from Reid Gorecki, helped do the damage. Navarrete and Nelson added solo homers in the seventh and eighth respectively to cap the scoring. Monti (4-1) picked up the win, tossing six innings, allowing one unearned run on just two hits while striking out four. Novoa (1-4) got the loss, giving up eight runs on nine hits in four innings of work. Williams, Gorecki and Navarrete led the Ducks with three hits each, while Nelson, Ortiz and Gorecki chipped in with three RBI apiece.
Armando Benitez and Josh Lansford both made their Ducks debut in the game. Benitez allowed two runs in one inning, while Lansford threw two scoreless innings.
