The retirement of New Hyde Park Memorial High School principal Michael DeMartino is a huge loss to the Sewanhaka Central High School district.
For 39 years Michael DeMartino has been a fixture in the district. He has run New Hyde Park Memorial with a firm, but calm hand, resulting in a very successful district.
Running a high school with students starting in the seventh grade and staying in the same building until the 12th grade is no easy feat, but principal DeMartino accomplished that challenge with such ease resulting, this year, in a graduating class of 304 students, most going on to college.
So, let us say, we hope that Mike has a happy and healthy retirement and that he does get to spend more time with his grandchildren, which is wonderful, but he will be missed.
