Merillon 10U Girls All Stars Capture District No. 28 Title

The Merillon 10U All Stars captured its first District 28 Title since 2001 by sweeping Port Washington 18-2 and 14-2. In the first game, Lauren “Lights Out” Wasserman, Daniella “K” Connor and Jillian “Cool” Cooper pitched a combined no hitter. Daniella Connor struck out five. The three co-captains also scored a combined nine runs and Lauren Wasserman had four RBIs.

Daniella Connor was on base four times and scored four runs. Jillian Cooper scored three big runs. Sarah Bush went one for two with a run scored and she caught the entire game, making a put-out at home plate. Samantha Grenard scored three runs and made two put-outs at first.

Julia White got on base three times and scored three big runs. Jenna Neu got on base three times and scored one run.

Theresa Patrey walked twice and scored a run. Michelle Lee made a nice throw from center field, almost throwing a girl out at first base. Margaret Devine got on base twice and scored one run.

In the second game, Jillian Cooper went one for two with two runs scored and pitched one shut-out inning. She also assisted on two double plays, one unassisted. Daniella Connor had a big hit and pitched two strong innings. Lauren Wasserman went one for two with four RBI and got the save, closing out the last inning.

Amber Roggendorf had a big hit, scored two runs and two runs batted in. Margaret Devine went one for one, scored a run and was tagged out on a close play at home plate. Sarah Bush walked twice, scored two runs and had another great day behind the plate, making another put-out at home on an attempted steal.

Samantha Grenard walked twice, scored a run and made a put out at home plate on an attempted steal. Michele Lee walked twice and scored two big runs. Julia White walked once and scored a big run. Katie Gray had a nice day in the outfield, making a nice throw to save a run from scoring.

Cedarhurst Threshers Vs Merillon 8U Red Sharks

The Red Sharks opened their season with a bang on Sunday morning on a beautiful day for baseball by beating the Threshers 16-2. The offense got off to great start by putting up 10 runs in the first two innings. Jimmy “Jimbo” Weeden took the hill for the Sharks and was lights out. He threw three shutout innings, allowed only two hits while striking out three. Matthew Heimowitz and Kenny Hirschfeld did a great job behind the plate. The defense turned several good plays in the field. Jaden Weisser had a big double and two RBI’s.  Kenny had a hit and three RBI’s. Arjun Bhatt had a hit and two runs scored.
