Filming The Good Wife too disruptive
At the last New Hyde Park Village Board meeting, a request from CBS Productions to film The Good Wife in the village courtroom was presented to the board. The mayor said he felt that having the film crew from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and possibly Friday of June 27, 28 and 29 would be too disruptive to normal village business and the rest of the board agreed, so they denied the request.
Public Hearings
Prior to the regular meeting the board held two public hearings; one for Dr. Sanjeev Nischal to open a physicans office at 608-A Jericho Turnpike and the other for Alexandra Pironi, owner of Casa Del Doce Bakery at 1200 Jericho Turnpike for permission to bake on the premises and to further expand the second story of the building into office space.
Dr. Nischal’s office hours would be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or possibly to 6 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
Dr. Nischal, who has a practice in Brooklyn, said that he would have appointments but some of his practice would be from walk-ins.
It was also established that the office space is two rooms, one for the reception area and one for the examination. There is a drop-off area and two reserved spaces for parking in the rear of the building.
All waste from the office will be taken care of by a private carter.
The application will now be sent to Nassau County and in 30 days they will send their decision back to the board.
Alexandra Pironi for Casa Del Doce
The plan is to build a new kitchen where the office is now and on top of the kitchen to build offices. The facility will be losing two parking spaces.
Mayor Daniel Petruccio commented that the plans call for two three-piece bathrooms. Trustee Lawrence Montreuil said he was curious as to why they would need two three-piece bathrooms.
Mayor Petruccio said that there is no residential occupancy on Jericho Turnpike and Ms. Pironi said she was aware of that.
She said, “I plan to have my office here because right now we are running back and forth from Franklin Square and it is very inconvenient.”
Trustee Montreuil said he was concerned that in the future the office space would be converted and he asked if Ms. Pironi would be willing to have two two-piece bathrooms instead of three-piece and she agreed to that.
Mayor Petruccio explained that the original application was to have off-site baking and this amended application would now include baking on the premises. Further, it was established that perishable waste would be stored in a walk-in refrigerator until it could be disposed of.
This application was the same as the last it; will go to Nassau County Planning and if approved will be sent back to the village board for final approval.
Regular Meeting
After taking a very brief break, the board resumed its regular meeting with reports from the board.
The board opened its meeting with the approval of block parties on July 21, July 28, Aug. 4, Aug. 11, Aug.18 with appropriate rain dates and subject to any cancellations due to road work.
Public Comments
A resident said that the area in and around Memorial Park, off Lincoln and Wilton, is very dangerous at night. He said that kids climb the fence, get into the park and at one point, recently, they were on top of the clubhouse in the park. To get to the top of the roof they use the water faucet to boost themselves. The resident added, “I’m surprised they didn’t break the faucet.
“I called the police and they came right away, which I was pleased they did; however, the kids must have heard them coming because they ran like the wind and were gone by the time the police arrived in the park.
“Is there some way to request they not use their sirens and lights and perhaps come in unmarked cars? The kids don’t belong there, as they all come in cars but never received tickets for being illegally parked on those streets.”
Mayor Petruccio said, “I don’t know if we can ask the police to come in unmarked cars.”
Superintendent of Public Works Tom Gannon said that he will be sure to alert the New Hyde Park Auxiliary Police to pass by that area at night and to also call 911 if they see any kids in the park or any cars parked illegally.
Trustee Richard Coppola said, “I don’t know what the remedy is and we do appreciate that you call the police.”
Mayor Petruccio then pointed out that at the next meeting of the village board, on July 17, a representative from the Third Precinct is scheduled to speak to the board and he encouraged the resident to come back and explain his concerns and he said he would.
The resident went on to explain another incident in the area around the park. He said that a man came to pick up his child from Little League practice and parked in his driveway. He said he went out and the driver did move. He said, “They have no respect for anyone else and they think it’s okay just as long as they are coming to pick up their children.”
Mayor Petruccio said, “We will certainly mention this to New Hyde Park Little League President Tom Pellegrino, who has monthly managers meetings and he will mention the situation to his coaches and they in turn will contact the parents.”
Trustee Reports
Trustee Richard Coppola
Trustee Coppola announced that the New Hyde Park Summer Program will begin on July 9 to Aug. 9. Please contact village hall for further details. The program is only open to village residents.
Auxiliary Police Officer John Concannon
Auxiliary Police Officer John Concannon was at the meeting and he explained that his men canvass the areas around both Nuzzi Park and New Hyde Park Memorial Park. He said that they don’t have the authority to issue tickets, but they call the Third Precinct as well to report any problems.
Mayor Petruccio pointed out that all the auxiliary police officers are volunteers and are the “eyes and ears” of the village and are very much appreciated.
Trustee Lawrence Montreuil
Trustee Montreuil reported that 69 building permits had been issued in May resulting in a revenue of $16, 781.
Trustee Montreuil said he has been speaking to the veterans to perhaps change the route of the Memorial Day parade. He said that perhaps assembling in the parking lot opposite village hall, and starting there going to Memorial Park, or it has been suggested starting in Memorial Park, with a service and then marching to village hall for further services and where refreshments will be served.

Mayor Daniel Petruccio announced that concerts in the park have begun and encouraged residents to attend these events. He said they are not that costly, but they would like to see by attendance that it’s something residents would attend.
The meeting then came to an end and the next meeting will be held on July 17 when Third Precinct inspector will be present.
