Obituary: Alton B. Giese

Alton B. Giese passed away on June 20, 2012 at the Townhouse Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Uniondale. He was born November 21, 1922 to Christian and Margaret Giese of Hicksville, owners of the original Giese Florist on Lee Avenue, Hicksville (which is now known as the Giese Community Park). Alton and his brother, Wesley continued to run the business until the late 1970’s, when they moved their flower shop to South Broadway (next to Robert Chevrolet). Mr. Giese and his wife, Bernice, retired to Southampton where he was very active in the Bayview Oaks Civic Association. Alton had been a member of the New York State Farm Bureau and a lifetime member (along with his wife Bernice) of the William M. Gouse, Jr. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3211, of Hicksville. He had two daughters, Susan and Arlene, and three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A memorial service was held at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Levittown. His cremains were interred at the L.I. National Cemetery, Pinelawn. Contributions to the Food Pantry at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church are requested in his memory.
