As we drove along Jericho Turnpike on Monday, we enjoyed looking at the wildflowers growing in the median. It was nice to see the pink clover blossoms and the blue asters that shine their faces at us in July. Do you remember Lady Bird Johnson, had a campaign to beautify America with wildflowers?
Unfortunately, those lovely wildflowers may not be there tomorrow. The New York State DOT will soon be coming along and mowing them down for the sake of a neat roadway.
Well, we would like to see the wildflowers remain there. It’s nice to see the little splashes of color while driving along. It might even save the state some money. That is always a plus.
Maybe we can start a campaign, “Save the wildflowers.”
We like the thought, especially when we know that Queen Anne’s lace is sure to follow in August!
They are the most magnificent flowers ever. Louis Comfort Tiffany agreed and used them as an inspiration for his work.
On this lovely summer day, let’s relax and mumble, “Save the wildflowers, save the wildflowers.”
