Kids Photo Class

Nature Photography, a two-hour program at the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium, takes place on July 12 (and July 16). Photographer Michael Fairchild teaches the class for campers grade 2 and up, using cameras supplied by a donation from Nikon.

Science For Tots

Pollywog Adventures at Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium is an experience designed for pre-schoolers ages 3 to 5. Children and parents enjoy the Hatchery’s exhibit animals as they learn about them through live animal shows, crafts, activities and stories.  Offered every Friday during July and August, the two-hour program runs from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.  Space is limited, registration is required.  For fees and further information call the Hatchery at 692-6768, or visit cshfha.org

Dancing In The Streets

The Oyster Bay Main Street Association brings Dancing to the Streets to the Derby-Hall Bandstand on July 13 (July 20 and 27). Live music and dancing instruction. Free.

Erik Koeppel, leading plein air landscape painter will demonstrate his art at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site on Friday, July 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of the Teaching Studios of Art of Oyster Bay contest events.

Lauren Sansaricq, famed plein air landscape painter will demonstrate the art at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site on Saturday, July 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of the the Teaching Studios of Art of Oyster Bay contest events.

Target Rock Beach Discovery Adventure for Kids

Learn about the maritime oak-hickory forest while walking along the one-mile path to the beach. Once at the beach, learn about the different parts of the beach, the processes that created it and discover the types of creatures that live there by collecting shells and identifying them. Bring water and wear comfortable shoes. All ages are welcome, but the trip is geared toward children ages 6-12 and their parents. 9:30 a.m. at 12 Target Rock Rd., Huntington. There is a $4 parking per car fee unless you have a Migratory Duck stamp, then admission is free. Art Contest Exhibit

The exhibition of the paintings created for the Teaching Studios of Art of Oyster Bay contest events takes place on Saturday, July 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Arts Space at The Rodger’s Building at 120 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay.

There will be an informal gallery talk by Erik Koeppel at 7:30 p.m.

There will be some light hors d’oeuvres, and wine. If you are in the market for a reasonable priced, original work of art, this is the perfect event for you.

The exhibition will remain up for one month, till Tuesday, August 14. The gallery hours are Monday to Thursday, July 16 to Aug. 14, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Witness Trees Reception

Visit Witness Trees, the Oyster Bay Historical Society’s summer exhibition, in partnership with Sagamore Hill National Historic Site runs from July 15 to Aug. 19. The opening reception is on Sunday, July 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Koenig Center, 20 Summit Street, Oyster Bay. The exhibit showcases the work of Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) students using wood reclaimed from trees on four national historic sites, including Sagamore Hill. Weekdays July 16 to 25 at 5:50 to 8:20 p.m. Cost per family is $50 for one child, $60 for two children, $70 for three or more children. Enjoy a guided nature walk on the trails throughout the year from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Hoffman Center Nature Preserve and Wildlife Sanctuary, 6000 Northern Blvd., Muttontown (between Route 106 and 107 – just west of Martin Viette Nursery). Blood Drive

The Oyster Bay-East Norwich Library and the Youth and Family Counseling Agency of Oyster Bay-East Norwich hold their annual blood drive at the library at 89 E. Composting Demonstration

Join North Shore Land Alliance and Assistant Horticulturist Nancy Warny for a composting demonstration at Clark Botanic Garden in Albertson on Thursday, July 26, at 6 p.m.  Visit this 12-acre jewel tucked away behind the Long Island Rail Road.  Learn about the Town of North Hempstead’s innovative program to encourage residents to convert would-be food waste to “black gold,” then take a tour of the Garden.

For an English Ivy Pull at Shu Swamp, Frost Mill Rd., Mill Neck, on July 29 at 8:30 a.m. Join the Shu Crew as it continues its efforts to eradicate English Ivy from this beautiful preserve. Come to the swamp for this fun and worthwhile effort. Snacks will be provided to the volunteers. Bring garden gloves if you have them as well as clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting muddy. Summer Concert Series

The summer concert series lineup at Chelsea Mansion on the Muttontown Preserve features music ranging from jazz to classical. Concertgoers are urged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy these outdoor shows. All performances are free of charge and will begin at 7:30 p.m. Concerts are as follows:

Swim Lessons
