Editorial: Levittown, It’s Hot Outside

No one really needs to be reminded that it’s been a sweltering past couple of days. Although the heat wave broke after Wednesday night and we’re back to enjoying some seasonally comfortable temperatures, it won’t be the last of the dangerously high heat. In fact, I giggle when I hear some people react as if it is the first heat wave to hit Long Island. We all know, it happens every summer, just as it has as long as I can recall, and will most likely always happen every summer.

There are three things that Long Island should expect year after year. We will have to combat a heat wave or more each summer. We will have to be vigilant and prepared through a hurricane season, and we will have a nor’easter.

You don’t even have to run up your own electric bill to stay cool through the next heat wave. Take advantage of the cooling centers, library, movie theatre, mall, pool, or beach to beat the heat. When all else fails, resort to a good old-fashioned way to cool off…popsicles and ice cream.
