Joe Auer is the latest Over the Hill Gang (OTHG) “Player of the Week.” The Lockie & Nowachek Family Chiropractors (L&N) outfielder belted a key two-run homer to spark his team to an 18-6 win over BarBoy. Auer went three-three with three RBIs and added a number of outstanding plays in the outfield.
L&N also got a big lift from Chris Theoharides (3 hits), Pete Hajko (3 hits, 3 RBIs, and a tremendous homerun), Tom Desantis (3 hits, 3 RBIs), and Thomas Joseph (3 hits). L&N was down 4–2 in the top of the fourth when Joe Auer followed Damon Pishva’s single with a homerun. L&N added six more runs in the inning to take a 10–4 lead. Ben Greco pitched the first five innings and was followed by Peter Cestare who allowed only one run in the last four innings. It was a well played game by the whole team.
Barco Construction continued its winning streak defeating McCourt & Trudden Funeral Home 23-5. It was an all around team effort with everyone contributing to the win. After holding M&T scoreless in the top of the first, Barco scored 7 in the bottom of the inning. M&T scored 3 in the top of the 5, but Barco responded by sending 13 men to the plate to add another 9 runs highlighted by Terry “The Bionic Man” McPartland stretching a home run into a triple. This prompted a good-hearted discussion between Gary Jambor and Terry as to who was slower highlighted by Gary asking if he could borrow Terry’s scooter. Barco added another three in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 23-3. M&T scored two more in the top of the seventh to finish the game at 23-5. Offensive standouts were Tim Dorman (3 for 4), Kevin Moloney (3 for 4, 3 RBIs), Dennis Ryan (3 for 4, 4 RBIs), and Rick Pedone (3 for 3, 3 RBIs). The highlight of the game, however, was Dave Saur’s catch when he came charging in from right center on a bloop hit and made a diving, full extension catch which got everyone juiced.
When does a tie feel like a win? For Zwanger Pesiri Radiology (ZP), it’s when you are down to your final strike and losing by three runs in the last inning. That was the setting when Tyrone Clark belted a 3-run homer to lift ZP to a 18-18 tie with Changing Times Pub. CT had one last at bat in the bottom half of the inning, but the ZP defense held. ZP has struggled to score runs this season, so manager Tom “T” Ball was pleased with the 18-run production and the grit displayed by the 10 players at the game. Russ Graham took a shot off his collarbone but stayed in the game, driving in four runs with a pair of hits. Pete Mendelson slammed 4 hits and signed a new three year contract after the game. Jerry Mazza had lady luck on his side with four “seeing eye” hits. John Hernandez had a hot bat, three hits and four RBIs, while John DeFalco also had three hits and a pair of RBIs. Pitcher Brian Tinney rounded out the hitting parade with two hits.
ZP sends its best to “Jive Talkin” rookie Sean O’Flynn. Sean came down with a severe case of “Night Fever” Friday night while “scouting” a Bee Gee’s tribute band. Everyone is certain he will have no problem “Staying Alive” and can’t wait for his version of “How Deep is Your Love.”
