Malone Mulhall Benefit Game set for July 28 at Adelphi University
There is nothing more heartwarming than a group of young citizens doing their part to help the community. On July 15, 2010 Paige Malone, Jaime Malone and Michael Mulhall were on their way to work at Camp ANCHOR (Answering the Needs of Citizens with Handicaps through Organized Recreation), a summer camp for mentally and physically handicapped individuals of all ages, when their daily commute turned into a fatal accident.
A little over two years later after this tragedy, the Malone Mulhall Benefit Game has been established and will take place at the Adelphi University gym on July 28 at 1 p.m. Tickets are priced at $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. All proceeds will be donated to the Jaime and Paige Malone Foundation and the Michael Mulhall University of Scranton Scholarship.
“Michael, Paige and Jamie would be behind this event 110 percent,” according to Mulhall’s father. “They left us while in the service of others. That’s what they were about, so it is very fitting that their friends carry on with their work by organizing this kind of fundraiser. We are deeply moved that their friends are keeping their spirit of service alive.”
The event will feature an all-star basketball game between some of the most talented players in the country, competing in the NBA and professional leagues around the world. Hall of Famer Chris Mullin and MSG announcer Mike Breen will be the celebrity coaches for the two teams. There will also be an autograph session with all the players and coaches after the game.
Participants of the game will include San Antonio Spur Danny Green, as well as many NBA Summer League players including Golden State Warrior Justin Burrell and Houston Rocket Scott Machado. Among the global participants who’ll be stepping on the hardwood will be Jeff Xavier and Tyrone Nash, pro hoopsters who ply their trade in leagues based in Spain and Germany respectively.
“It’s truly sad to see what happened to these kids while they were doing such great work for their community, but this event will honor their memory by helping others,” said Green. “This game consists of some of the best basketball players from the New York area, and it’ll be a great day of entertainment for all.”

“The Malone Mulhall Benefit Game is an amazing way to honor Jaime, Paige and Michael,” said one of the creators of the event, Joe Lynch. “Sports were a big part of their lives, both growing up and as young adults. The game offers a great day of entertainment for all, and raises money for the Jaime and Paige Malone Foundation and the Michael Mulhall Memorial Scholarship, so everybody wins.”
