Hailey Orgass, 17, was recently crowned Miss Wantagh 2012, out of eight other teen candidates, a tradition in the south shore community since 1956. She has just completed her junior year at Wantagh High School.
Her service and accomplishments include National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, and Foreign Language Honor Society. She has received a scholarship from University of Rochester, including the Xerox Award of Innovation and Technology for her accomplishments in science.
In addition, Orgass is involved with the G.O. (General Organization) club at Wantagh High School. She serves as the head of the club’s public relations and as the club’s secretary. “I can’t thank this club enough for opening my eyes up to the gratification that comes from helping out others,” Orgass said. She is also a part of the French Club, Key Club, International Outreach, Science Olympiad and Class Committee.
Orgass said, “Volunteering has been my passion and an outlet I can escape to.” She helps at birthday parties for underprivileged kids at John Theissen’s Children Foundation and she transports food to shelters across Long Island for Island Harvest.
In Orgass’s statement to the pageant, she said she thanks her parents, and her brother Colin, sister Kyra, and dog Buster for supporting her. “My grandparents and my aunt keep me going, motivating me to be my best; I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for them,” she added. “My friends are a huge part of my life and I wouldn’t want it any other way.” Orgass is spending time this summer as a volunteer at Winthrop Hospital.
This year’s finalists for Miss Wantagh included: Alyssa Kelly (1st Runner up); Paulina Renda (2nd Runner up); Alyson Hopkins (3rd Runner up); Carly Censi; Samantha Fraembs; Alexandria Lee-Puma; Belinda Liu and Donna Parlato.
