Domenica Askeland Knows Oyster Bay
Domenica Askeland called to identify the mystery picture in the Aug. 2 issue of the Enterprise Pilot. She said, “It’s taken from TR beach in Oyster Bay. It’s by the beach volleyball and basketball courts that are to the right. We were there toward the beginning of summer and sat not far from there. That was the first time I noticed that there was a beach volleyball court in Oyster Bay. I’ve lived here for eight years, I grew up in Bayville.”
Since she lived in Bayville, we asked her about restoration work planned for West Shore Road. She said, “I’m thankful I don’t live in Bayville anymore. It will be a challenge getting in and out of there. The repair is something that is long overdue.”
Robert Rosenberg of Bayville also called to identify the photograph. He said, “It’s taken in TR Park, looking east. In back is the town’s boat ramp. I’ve been there many times. I’ve been going there a long time. My son is now 34 and I took him there when he was 5. It’s a great little spot.” Mr. Rosenberg is a salesman and at 62, he is still young. He added, “There are great hot dogs a little way over, at Bonanza’s stand. They have been in business for over 100 years. His grandfather started the business. They have great Italian ices there, too.”

Too late for publication in the Aug. 2 issue of the Enterprise Pilot, we received this email from Tony Pilla of Anniston, Alabama answering the July 28 photo. It was great because it confirmed the email we received earlier from Rich Mancinic. Tony said, “The picture this week is the railroad station at the end of Audrey Avenue. I guess the fence was there while the station was being refurbished. I lived about a block away on Hamilton Avenue for many years.”
Just to remind you, Rich Mancini said last week in the Aug. 2 issue, “The photo seems to be the back-side of the railroad station. To the left would be Roosevelt Park and to the right would be Hamilton Ave. I lived at 50 Hamilton Ave. for a while right across from Mike and Angie Pilla.”
Jim Tedesco identified the mystery picture from the June 28 issue. He said, “It’s the old Oyster Bay train station, looking east. You can see the corner of the old station in the picture — the one they are currently restoring.”
