Event will be held Sunday, August 12, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m
The New York AutoFest is coming to Oyster Bay on Sunday, Aug. 12, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., said Michele Browner, Oyster Bay-East Norwich Chamber of Commerce president.
Austin Azzaretto, the Cruise Night chair, said that the NY AutoFest was originally scheduled for Sunday, July 29 but it was cancelled due to the unpredictable weather. The NY AutoFest is a series of car shows held throughout the summer. All shows help raise funds for charitable organizations such as the Knights of Columbus and others.
“It is a juried show,” said Shari Cope Dembowski, chamber administrative assistant. She added, “This is not an actual Cruise Night event, which are held Tuesdays on Audrey Avenue. It is run by a friend of Austin Azzaretto, our Cruise Night chair. Cruise Nights benefit the chamber and in this case, NY Auto will benefit the chamber.”
The OBEN Chamber of Commerce uses funds from Cruise Nights for their beautification work in the hamlet as well as other chamber projects.
NY Auto tells the story of its enterprise. They explained that, thanks to the generous support of their corporate and private sponsors, their overhead expenses are kept to a minimum allowing more funds to be used for these charitable programs. Those sponsors include: Cap-A-Radiator, Specialty Supply Company, Phoenix Interiors, Best Western Woodbury Inn, Executive Inn Woodbury, Appliance World, Gizay Michaels – RockAuto.com and many more.
NY AutoFest is open to all cars, trucks, and motorcycles. They give out dash plaques at all shows. To show cars it costs $20, spectators pay $5 depending on the show (under 12 free).
Mr. Azzaretto puts a great deal of effort into providing music for Cruise Nights. On Tuesday, Aug. 14, Richie Cannata & The Mon Night Band will be performing. The car show starts at 5 p.m. and the band starts strumming at 6 p.m.
Austin said, “Audrey Avenue gets shut down every Tuesday night to provide space for the gathering of some of the finest vehicles on Long Island. From radical to rat-rods, Duesenbergs to Ducatis. We invite car and motorcycle enthusiasts to bring their precious rides out for public viewing.”
He added, “The OBEN Chamber of Commerce would like to thank all those who bring their cars down, and to all the residents and visitors who walk in to see the show. It’s free to walk in and it costs $5 to show a car.”
