Garden City’s Sean Bingham Receives Scholarship

The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) congratulates Sean Bingham of Garden City on receiving a $1,000 Livio D’Arpino Scholarship. Sean also received the Vincent Gubin Memorial Scholarship from the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) this summer.

Sean graduated in the top 5 percent of his class at Garden City High School and played soccer there as well. The National Honor Society member will be studying and playing soccer at MIT this fall.

Sean played for LIJSL team Commack United, the 2010 Regional champions. He refined his wonderful skills by playing with ENYYSA’s Olympic Development Program from 2003 to 2010.

Sean has volunteered for the past seven years with the LIJSL’s TOPSoccer Special Children’s Program.

Garden City High School counselor Patrick Doyle stated, “Even as a ninth grader, it was soon obvious that Sean was head and shoulders above most of his classmates. In his senior year, I have come to admire Sean even more. Sean is truly the consummate gentleman as he is polite and respectful to all. His humility is refreshing, his scholastic and athletic ability noteworthy, and his impeccable character unquestionable.”

The scholarship’s namesake, Livio D’Arpino, is named after the beloved ENYYSA vice-president who also had impeccable character and was seemingly involved in every area of local soccer before his untimely passing in 2002.

With 123,843 youth soccer players––68,587 boys and 55,256 girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association stretches from Montauk Point to the Canadian border. Members are affiliated with 12 leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire state of New York east of Route 81. ENYYSA exists to promote and enhance the game of soccer for children and teenagers between the ages of 5 and 19 years old, and to encourage the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees and administrators. All levels of soccer are offered––from intramural, travel team and premier players as well as Special Children. No child who wants to play soccer is turned away. ENYYSA is a proud member of the United States Soccer Federation and United States Youth Soccer Association. For more information, please visit www.enysoccer.com.
