3rd Annual Walk for Lymphedema and Lymphatic Diseases
The Lymphatic Research Foundation is proud to announce the 3rd Annual Walk for Lymphedema and Lymphatic Diseases. This event supports funding for The Lymphatic Research Foundation (LRF), which is an organization dedicated to advancing research of the lymphatic system and to find improved treatments and cures for lymphatic diseases, lymphedema, and related disorders. Cafe Ablaze Reopening
Café Ablaze Christian Coffeehouse reopens the evening of Saturday, Sept. 22. Onstage will be the music ministry of soulful Long Island contralto singer, Patrizia DiLorenzo, as well as acclaimed Patchogue-based Rev 7 Band, led by Leah and Allen Cuffey. All are welcome. Sit at elegantly-decorated candlelit tables in a beautifully decorated “café” having a friendly, casual atmosphere. Enjoy flavored coffees and teas along with delectable desserts. The Bethpage Ocean to Sound 50-Mile Relay will be held on Sunday, Sept. 23 to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. A Country-Western party will be hosted by the Nassau & Queens Chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 3 p.m. The party will be held in the Parish Hall of the Church of St Jude, 3606 Lufberry Ave., Wantagh. Volunteers Sought for Breast Cancer Program
If you’ve had breast cancer and want to pay it forward become a hotline volunteer. Women and men who are breast cancer survivors and others who are concerned about breast health issues can become volunteers at the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program in Garden City. Volunteers can help by doing fundraising and publicity, as well as by answering hotline calls. Hotline volunteers provide emotional support, information and referral services to callers with breast health concerns. Although the program is housed on Long Island, hotline services and telephone counseling are available to callers throughout New York State. The next five-session training cycle will be starting at the end of September 2012 at the Adelphi University School of Social Work in Garden City. Creative Cups
The popular, life-affirming event of the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program, is returning and people are invited to participate by creating an “art bra” or becoming a sponsor. Submitted creations must be received by Oct. 15 to be included in the auction/gala (to be held on March 14, 2013 at Adelphi University in Garden City). Those wishing to create a bra are encouraged to sign up early, as entrants will be limited to 200. Creative Cups celebrates the lives of those living with breast cancer and those lost to this terrible disease. Free Breast Cancer Support Groups
The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer program is offering new support groups. There is no cost for any group; however pre-registration is required. Additional groups are formed upon request, including groups for men with breast cancer and family members. All groups meet at Adelphi University School of Social Work in Garden City. Starting October 1:
•Support group for women newly diagnosed with breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
•Support group for women post treatment will meet weekly for eight weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
•Support group for young women with breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
•Support group for women with metastatic breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Starting October 2:
•A telephone support group for women with breast cancer will be held weekly for eight weeks from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Furniture Needed
The A.T. Stewart Exchange Consignment Shop, 109 Eleventh St., Garden City, is looking for furniture to add to its inventory. The shop can use cocktail tables, end tables, consoles, chairs of all types, dressers, dining room tables, breakfronts, servers, secretaries, mirrors, etc….it’s all in demand. If you have a particularly large piece, take a picture, and show it to Kris or Jill at the shop (516 746-8900). Consignees get 50 percent of the selling price. Parking is convenient because the shop is located on the lower level of the Garden City Historical Museum.
Dance Classes
