Obituary: Stella M. Reyes

Stella M. Reyes, M.D. passed away on Sept. 17, 2012 after a long courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by family and friends. Born in Cebu, Philippines, Dr. Reyes immigrated to New York in 1964 to start her medical career. She met her loving husband while doing her pediatrics training and moved to Long Island, where she practiced pediatrics in Oyster Bay for 35 years. She touched many lives during her successful career and was loved by many. An avid world traveler, she was an accomplished pianist, ballroom dancer, and gardener. She loved to play tennis, collect jewelry and especially loved spending time with her family and friends. She was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith.

Predeceased by her parents Mateo and Carolina Maramara. She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years Gregorio, her children Rick (Whitney), Michelle DiLapi (David), John (Jeana), and Gregory (Ji Hyun), her grandchildren Allison, Thomas, Ricky, Christian and David, brothers Ramon (Jane) and Emmanuel (Maria Victoria), sister Teresa (JoAchim) and nieces Angela, Lauren, Julia, Olivia and Caroline, and many loved in-laws, extended family and friends.

Reposing was at McLaughlin-Kramer Funeral Home and Funeral Mass was at St. Rocco’s Church Friday morning Sept. 21. Donations in her name can be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
